A lot has changed with the school system in the last couple of years, so let's start from the beginning with explaining the changes, so that everyone is onboard.
Primary school used to be from class 1 up to class 8, but was changed so that from 2023 only class 1-6 was included in primary school and class 7-9 became Junior Secondary School. Therefore, we could proudly say that 2023 was the first full year of Eco Moyo being a full worthy primary school. However, we have always supported our previous students through their class 7 & 8 in the nearest public school, Eza Moyo, with school fees, exam fees and uniforms. But since we made a promise to provide primary education, we had to draw the line when those classes became a part of secondary education. It is a lot more expensive with secondary school fees and we simply couldn't afford it.
But since April 2024, we have received the most beautiful sponsorship! This new sponsorship's main focus is to help our former students after they finish Eco Moyo Primary. So we are now also supporting 44 of our previous students in their Junior Secondary education! WOW!! This includes 2 sets of uniforms, school fees, exam fees, application fees and food!
A few of the students were not able to attend class 7 in the first term this year, as the families didn't have the money. So imagine our pure joy when this was made possible for everyone!!
We are not gonna lie, we cried A LOT of happy tears when we got these news.
The Eco Moyo students in class 7 & 8 were a part of the first classes attending the school when we first opened the school in Dzunguni village, so we struggle to find words for how much it means to us to be able to support them beyond primary school.
We are soooo happy and grateful for this!!
So, in the future we may refer to all of “our” students as “our Eco Moyo Secondary students” - this means all the students we support in their secondary schools. WE are still “only” a primary school ;)
