This year, we’ve started something new at Eco Moyo – and it’s just for the girls! Every Monday at 16:00, we kick the boys out to give our girls their own space to explore, learn, and just be themselves.
In our community, girls often have more responsibilities at home—cooking, cleaning, and looking after younger siblings. It’s part of the culture, but it also means they don’t always have the same freedom as boys to stay after school for activities. Walking home alone in the evening can also be a safety concern.
That’s why we created Girls Club—a time just for them.
Right now, it’s led by two amazing students from Norway who are staying at the school. Each week, the activities vary between arts, dance and football, and the response has been incredible! The girls love having a space where they can express themselves without judgment.
And for those who choose football? They’re gearing up for something big. On March 8th—International Women’s Day, we’re hosting our very first Girls Football Tournament, inviting schools from the surrounding areas to join. We’re expecting a fantastic day full of energy, teamwork and celebration!
We know that an afternoon of football and dance won’t erase inequality. But giving girls a safe space to explore, play and grow on their own terms? That’s a small step in the right direction.
